Remove the location from Samsung Galaxy photos
FreeNo uploadNo signupWorks offline
Samsung phones record location in photos when the camera has permission, and Samsung Gallery shows it back to you on a map in the photo’s details. That map is the quickest way to find out whether a photo you are about to send is carrying coordinates: if Gallery can place it, so can whoever receives it. Drop the photos here to strip the coordinates and the rest of the metadata before you send them. Everything happens on your device, which is the only sensible way to handle a file you are trying to make less revealing.
How to use Remove Photo Location (Samsung)

- Choose or drop the Samsung photos – a whole folder is fine.
- Look at the metadata found, including the location, before it is removed.
- Click Remove metadata and download the clean copies.
Supported formats
- Input: JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF
- Output: Same as input (JPG, PNG, WebP), JPG (for HEIC)
Samsung Gallery shows you what is there
Samsung is more forthcoming than most Android skins. Open a photo in Gallery and swipe up, or tap the information icon, and the details panel lists the date, the file, the camera settings and - if it was recorded - a location with a small map. Some versions offer to remove that location from the same panel. Whether yours does depends on your One UI version, which is exactly why checking the details panel first is better advice than following a menu path.
- Gallery → open the photo → swipe up or tap ⓘ → look for a map under the details
- Camera → Settings → “Location tags” controls whether new photos are tagged
- No map in the details panel means that photo has no coordinates to remove
The details panel is not the whole file
What Gallery shows is a readable summary, not everything the file holds. Removing the location through Gallery leaves the capture time, the Galaxy model, the lens, the exposure and often a note of the software that last edited it. For a photo going to a stranger - a marketplace listing, a landlord, a support ticket - the model and timestamp are worth removing too, and that is what dropping it here does.
What is actually removed
GPS coordinates and altitude, the date and time the photo was taken, the make and model of the device, lens and exposure settings, the serial number some cameras write, and any editing history. For JPG, PNG and WebP these blocks are cut out and the image data is left untouched, so there is no quality loss at all. The colour profile is kept by default so the picture still looks right.
Limitations
- HEIC, AVIF and GIF files are re-encoded (as JPG or AVIF) to remove their metadata.
- Metadata a service has already recorded from a photo you uploaded earlier cannot be removed from your copy.
- Platform menus move between versions; the routes described here are where to look, not a promise about a particular release.
Privacy
Files you choose are read into your browser’s memory and processed on your device; they are not uploaded to a server. Temporary download links are released after use, and the offline cache never stores your documents. More about privacy and limits.
Frequently asked questions
How do I tell whether a Samsung photo has a location?
Open it in Gallery and swipe up. If a small map appears in the details, the coordinates are in the file. No map means there is nothing to remove.
Does Samsung Gallery remove all the metadata?
No. Where it offers removal at all it removes the location, leaving the date, model, lens and exposure in place.
Will my photos lose quality?
No. For JPG the metadata block is cut out and the image data is left exactly as it was, so the picture is unchanged.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. They are opened and rewritten inside your browser, and nothing is sent to a server - which rather matters for a tool whose whole job is removing the places you have been.
Is it free?
Yes – free, with no signup, no watermark and no limit on how many photos you clean at once.
