Enhance audio – make speech sound clear

FreeNo uploadNo signupWorks offline

Clean up podcasts, interviews, voice-overs, lectures and video soundtracks in one click. An AI model removes fan noise, hum, traffic and room noise, then the voice is evened out and set to podcast loudness – all on your device, so your recording is never uploaded.

How to use Enhance Audio

Enhance Audio – Make voice recordings clear: remove noise, even out and normalize. Free, no upload.
  1. Choose or drop a recording (audio or video).
  2. Pick how much noise to remove and the loudness target.
  3. Click Enhance and wait while it runs on your device.
  4. Compare before and after, then download.

Supported formats

  • Input: MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, Opus, MP4, MOV, WebM
  • Output: MP3, WAV

What Enhance does

1. Removes background noise with DeepFilterNet3, an open-source speech-enhancement AI. 2. Cuts low rumble and mains hum below 80 Hz. 3. Gently compresses the voice so quiet and loud passages are more even. 4. Normalizes to −16 LUFS (a common podcast target) with peaks kept under −1 dB, so it is loud and clear without distortion.

AI that runs on your device

The noise-removal model (about 34 MB) is downloaded from this site once and cached. It runs in your browser – typically several times faster than real time on a recent computer – so your recording never leaves your device.

How much noise to remove

Strong removes as much noise as possible and makes pauses silent. Balanced and Light leave a little natural room sound, which can sound more natural for music or ambience.

Which loudness to choose

Loudness is measured in LUFS. Streaming services turn louder tracks down, so matching their target keeps your voice at the level listeners expect.

Common loudness targets. Each service publishes its own spec; these are the usual values.
SettingUse it for
−16 LUFSPodcasts – the level Apple Podcasts recommends
−14 LUFSYouTube, Spotify and social video, which play back at about −14 LUFS
−19 LUFSA quieter, more natural result, e.g. audiobooks and meditation
−23 LUFSTV and radio delivery under the EBU R128 standard

How to enhance audio on your phone

Open this page in Safari (iPhone) or Chrome (Android), tap “Choose files” and pick a voice memo, recording or video. Tap Enhance, listen to Before and After, then download. On a phone a 10-minute recording takes longer than on a computer, so for long files use a laptop if you can.

Get the best result from a recording

AI cleans up noise, but the recording still matters most:

  • Keep the microphone or phone 10–20 cm from your mouth – the voice gets louder and the room quieter.
  • Record in a small room with soft furnishings; bare walls cause echo, which this tool does not remove.
  • Turn off fans and air conditioning if you can – steady noise is easiest to remove, but less noise is always better.
  • Avoid recording so loud that it distorts: clipped audio cannot be repaired.
  • Record in the best quality your app offers (WAV or high-quality M4A) rather than a low-bitrate MP3.

Limitations

  • Up to 60 minutes and 500 MB per file.
  • Which input formats open depends on your browser: Chrome and Edge read the most formats.
  • Designed for speech; it can affect music.
  • Removes noise, not echo/reverb, and does not rebuild a muffled voice.
  • Output is the enhanced audio only (a video’s picture is not kept).

Privacy

Files you choose are read into your browser’s memory and processed on your device; they are not uploaded to a server. Temporary download links are released after use, and the offline cache never stores your documents. More about privacy and limits.

Frequently asked questions

Is this like Adobe Podcast Enhance Speech?

It does a similar job – removing noise and evening out speech – but runs entirely in your browser, with no account and no upload. It does not re-synthesise the voice, so it will not make a phone recording sound like a studio microphone, and it does not remove echo.

Does it work on music?

It is designed for speech. On music it can remove instruments along with the noise; use Light, or the Volume Booster for music.

Can I enhance the audio of a video?

Yes – drop the video file. You get the enhanced soundtrack as an MP3 or WAV.

Why is the result mono?

Speech recordings are almost always mono, and podcasts are usually published in mono. Stereo music should use Remove Background Noise, which keeps stereo.

My voice sounds robotic or underwater – what can I do?

That happens when there is a lot of noise and Strong removes some of the voice with it. Try Balanced or Light: a little background sound is less noticeable than a damaged voice.

Can it remove echo or reverb?

No. It removes noise, not the sound of the room. To avoid echo, record in a smaller room with soft furnishings and keep the microphone close.

Can I enhance a Zoom or Teams recording?

Yes. Drop the MP4 or M4A recording; you get the cleaned-up audio as MP3 or WAV.

Which loudness should I use for YouTube?

−14 LUFS. YouTube turns louder videos down to about that level, so your voice will match other videos.

How long does it take?

On a recent computer, usually a few times faster than the recording’s length. The first time, the 34 MB AI model is downloaded; after that it is cached.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The audio is decoded and processed in your browser, so recordings and videos never leave your device.

Is it free?

Yes – free with no signup, no watermark and no daily limit.

How long can a recording be?

Up to 60 minutes per file (and 500 MB). The whole recording is held in your device’s memory while it is processed, so very long files need a computer rather than an older phone.
