How to edit a PDF without uploading it
Need to fix a name, a date or a phone number in a resume, form or invoice – but don’t want to upload a private document to a website? You can edit it for free directly in your browser. The file never leaves your device.
Steps
- Open the free online PDF editor and choose your file. It opens instantly – there is no upload.
- Click the text you want to change and type. The editor uses the same font, size and colour as the original.
- Use the side panel to change the font, size, bold/italic, colour or alignment, or drag text to move it.
- To change an image, click it and choose Replace, or delete or move it.
- Use Find & replace to change a word on every page at once.
- Click Save PDF and download the edited file.
Why not upload it?
Most online PDF editors upload your file and process it on their servers, where it is kept for some time before being deleted. For resumes, ID documents, bank statements or contracts, many people prefer that no copy ever exists outside their own device. Browser-based editing gives you exactly that – and it is often faster, since nothing has to be uploaded. See how it works and check it yourself.
Other things you can do without uploading
- Sign a PDF with a drawn or uploaded signature.
- Fill a PDF form and flatten it.
- Compress a PDF to meet upload size limits on job or government forms.
- Convert PDF to Word with the layout kept.
- Merge or split PDFs.
Limits
Text drawn as shapes and scanned pages cannot be edited as text. If a character you type is missing from the document’s own font, that block is written in a close look-alike font instead. Edited paragraphs re-flow within their original width, and longer text does not push the lines below it down.
Frequently asked questions
Can I edit a PDF without uploading it?
Yes. FilesProcess Edit PDF runs entirely in your browser: the PDF is opened and edited on your device and saved back as a download. It is never sent to a server.
Can I change the existing text, not just add new text?
Yes, for most digitally created PDFs. Click any text to edit it in place; the old words are removed from the page and the new text is written in the document’s own font whenever it contains the characters you type.
Is it free?
Yes – free, with no signup and no watermark.
Can I edit a scanned PDF?
A scan is a picture of text, so its words cannot be edited directly. You can run OCR PDF to make the text searchable, or cover an area with a white-out box and add new text.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in a modern mobile browser. Very large files may be limited by the phone’s memory.
Free, no signup, and your files never leave your device.
