FilesProcess

How FilesProcess works: your files never leave your device

Most online PDF sites upload your document to their servers, process it there and keep it for a while. FilesProcess does all the work inside your browser instead. Your PDF is never sent anywhere.

What happens when you choose a file

  1. Your browser reads the file into memory on your own device – nothing is transmitted.
  2. The tool runs locally. Open-source libraries (PDF.js, pdf-lib, Tesseract for OCR) run as JavaScript and WebAssembly in a background worker on your device.
  3. The result is created on your device and saved with your browser’s normal download.
  4. When you close the tab, it’s gone. Documents are not stored, cached or synced.

What does go over the network

  • The website itself: pages, scripts, fonts and the OCR language model – the same for every visitor.
  • Anonymous visit statistics (page views and the tool name) – never file names or contents. See the privacy page.

Check it yourself in two minutes

Method 1: watch the network

  1. Open any tool, for example the PDF editor.
  2. Press F12 (or right-click → Inspect) and open the Network tab.
  3. Choose a PDF and run the tool. You will see no request that carries your file – no upload, whatever the file size.

Method 2: switch off the internet

  1. Open a tool and run it once.
  2. Turn on airplane mode or disconnect Wi-Fi.
  3. Run it again on another file. It still works, because nothing needs a server.

Why this matters

People use PDF tools for resumes, ID cards, bank statements, contracts and medical reports. When those files are uploaded, a copy exists – at least for a while – on a computer you don’t control. Processing on your own device removes that risk entirely, and it is usually faster too, because nothing has to be uploaded or downloaded.

Honest limits

Browser processing is limited by your device’s memory, so very large files (over about 150 MB) are refused and phones may struggle sooner. Each tool page lists its own limitations, and the privacy and limits page covers the rest.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?

No. FilesProcess has no upload endpoint. Your file is read into your browser’s memory, processed by code running on your device, and the result is saved straight back to your device.

Can I use the tools offline?

Yes. Once a tool page has loaded and you have run it once, you can switch off your internet connection and keep using it. The installable app (PWA) also keeps its own code cached for offline use.

Is FilesProcess free?

Yes. Every working tool is free to use, with no signup, no watermark and no daily limit imposed by a server – the only limit is your device’s memory.

What data does the site collect?

Only anonymous visit statistics through Google Analytics: which pages are viewed and the name of the tool used. File names, file contents and file sizes are never collected. Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland are asked first.

Is it safe for confidential documents?

Because the document is never transmitted, there is no copy on anyone else’s server to leak or be retained. As with any software, keep your browser up to date and only use devices you trust.

Free, no signup, and your files never leave your device.
