Edit & annotateFully working
Edit the text and images of a PDF
Double-click any line or paragraph to rewrite it. The original words are removed from the page and the new text is written in the document’s own font whenever it contains the characters you type, otherwise in a close look-alike font. You can also restyle or move text, find and replace across pages, replace or delete images, and add new text, images, signatures or white-out boxes.
How to use Edit PDF
- Select a PDF.
- Double-click text to edit it, or click an image to replace, move or delete it.
- Use the side panel for font, size, colour and alignment, or Find & replace for every page.
- Save and download the edited PDF.
Supported formats
- Input: PDF
- Output: PDF
Real text editing, not an overlay
Edited and deleted text is removed from the page content and the replacement is written as real, selectable text. The page preview is rendered from the edited file itself, so what you see is what you download.
Fonts
PDFs usually embed only the characters they use. If a character you type is missing from the original font, the block is written with a bundled metric-compatible font (Liberation Sans/Serif/Mono, Carlito for Calibri, Caladea for Cambria). In Chrome and Edge you can also pick a font installed on your computer.
Paragraphs
Lines that wrap are grouped into a paragraph and re-wrapped to the same width after editing. Justified text is re-flowed left-aligned (or centred/right-aligned if you choose).
Limitations
- Scanned pages and text drawn as vector outlines have no editable text.
- Missing characters in the original font switch the block to a look-alike font; text in scripts not covered by the bundled fonts (e.g. Devanagari, CJK) needs an installed font (Chrome/Edge).
- Text inside elements repeated on many pages (shared headers, some forms) is hidden or covered rather than removed.
- Edited paragraphs are re-flowed; text that becomes longer is not pushed down.
- White-out boxes are not redaction.
Privacy
Files you choose are read into your browser’s memory and processed on your device; they are not uploaded to a server. Temporary download links are released after use, and the offline cache never stores your documents. More about privacy and limits.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change existing text?
Yes, in most digitally created PDFs: double-click the text, type, and click outside. The old text is removed, not just covered.
Why can’t I edit the text of a scanned page?
A scan is a picture of text. Run OCR PDF first to add searchable text, or cover the area and add new text.
Is a white-out box safe for redaction?
No. A box only hides content visually. To remove text for real, select it and delete it instead.
