How to use Compress Image

Compress Image – Make JPG, PNG and WebP images smaller without visible quality loss. Free, no upload.
  1. Choose or drop your images.
  2. Pick a quality level, or switch to “Target size” and enter the maximum KB.
  3. Click Compress.
  4. Compare the before/after sizes and download.

Supported formats

  • Input: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC
  • Output: Same as input, JPG, WebP

Smarter compression

JPGs are re-encoded with MozJPEG, which produces files about 10–20% smaller than standard JPEG at the same quality. PNGs are reduced to an optimal colour palette (like TinyPNG) and then losslessly optimised with oxipng. WebP and AVIF use Google’s libwebp and libavif.

Hit an exact size limit

Upload forms often require images under 100 KB, 200 KB or 1 MB. In Target size mode the tool finds the highest quality that fits, and only scales the image down if quality alone is not enough.

Limitations

  • Images that are already highly compressed may barely shrink.
  • Animated images are compressed as a single frame.

Privacy

Files you choose are read into your browser’s memory and processed on your device; they are not uploaded to a server. Temporary download links are released after use, and the offline cache never stores your documents. More about privacy and limits.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my images get?

Photos typically shrink by 50–80% with no visible difference. Images that were already heavily compressed shrink less.

Will compressing reduce the image dimensions?

No – the width and height stay the same unless you choose a target size that can only be reached by also scaling the image down (you are told when that happens).

Can I compress an image without losing quality?

At 80–90% quality the difference is invisible for photos. For truly lossless results use Compress PNG in lossless mode, which keeps every pixel identical.

How do I compress an image to 1 MB, 2 MB or 5 MB?

Choose “To a target size” and enter 1000, 2000 or 5000 KB, or use the ready-made Compress to 1 MB and Compress to 2 MB pages.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser using WebAssembly versions of the same codecs desktop apps use. Your photos never leave your device.

Is it free?

Yes – free with no signup, no watermark and no daily limit. You can process many images at once.

Can I convert many images at once?

Yes. Select or drop as many images as you like; each is processed on your device and you can download them one by one or together as a ZIP.
