Passport size photo in centimetres
FreeNo uploadNo signupWorks offline
A passport photo is specified in centimetres but saved in pixels, and the conversion between them is where most attempts go wrong. Drop a photo, and it is cropped to 3.5 × 4.5 cm at a resolution that prints properly, with your face found and positioned for you - on your device.
How to use Passport Size Photo in cm

- Take or choose a photo against a plain light wall, facing the camera.
- Your face is found and placed inside the 3.5 × 4.5 cm frame automatically.
- Adjust with drag and zoom if you want to.
- Download, and check it against the rules for your country.
Supported formats
- Input: JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP
- Output: JPG
How many pixels is 3.5 × 4.5 cm?
It depends entirely on the resolution. At 300 DPI - the figure almost every authority asks for - 3.5 × 4.5 cm is 413 × 531 pixels. At 600 DPI it is 827 × 1063. At 150 DPI it is 207 × 266. All three are the same physical photograph; they differ only in how much detail they carry. If a form gives you centimetres and no DPI, use 300.
| Size | Used by | Pixels at 300 DPI |
|---|---|---|
| 3.5 × 4.5 cm | India, most of Europe, UK, Australia | 413 × 531 |
| 5.1 × 5.1 cm (2 × 2 in) | United States, and US visas | 600 × 600 |
| 3.3 × 4.8 cm | Canada (some formats) | 390 × 567 |
| 3.5 × 3.5 cm | Some Chinese applications | 413 × 413 |
Printing it at the right size
A photo lab prints what the file declares. If the file says 72 DPI, a 413 × 531 image will print about 14 × 18 cm - far too large - even though the pixels are right. Set the resolution tag to 300 before printing, or use the 4 × 6 inch sheet option, which lays several copies out at the correct physical size for a standard print.
What the size does not tell you
Every authority also sets rules on the background, the expression, how much of the frame your head fills and how recent the photo is. Getting the centimetres right is necessary and not sufficient. Check the rules for the country you are applying to before you submit.
Limitations
- Follows the size you choose; it does not judge whether the photo itself meets a country’s rules on pose, background or how recent it is.
- Background whitening works best against a plain, light wall.
Privacy
Files you choose are read into your browser’s memory and processed on your device; they are not uploaded to a server. Temporary download links are released after use, and the offline cache never stores your documents. More about privacy and limits.
