What is HEIC?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos since iOS 11. It stores photos at about half the size of JPG with the same quality, but many Windows apps, websites and older devices cannot open it. Converting to JPG or PNG makes the photo open everywhere.

When to choose PNG over JPG

PNG is lossless, so editing and re-saving never reduces quality – but files are several times larger than JPG. For sharing photos, JPG is usually the better choice; for editing, design work and screenshots, PNG is.

  • Animated images are converted as a single still frame.
  • Very large images (over 100 megapixels) are refused to protect your device’s memory.

Why is the PNG so large?

PNG stores every pixel without lossy compression. Photos with lots of detail become large PNG files; use HEIC to JPG if file size matters.

Does it work on Windows and Mac?

Are my images uploaded?
