Compress PNG images
FreeNo uploadNo signupWorks offline
Make PNG screenshots, logos and graphics up to 70% smaller while keeping transparency. Choose smart colour reduction (like TinyPNG) for the biggest savings, or lossless optimisation that keeps every pixel identical.
How to use Compress PNG

- Choose or drop your PNG images.
- Pick smart (lossy) or lossless compression.
- Click Compress PNG.
- Download the smaller PNGs.
Supported formats
- Input: PNG
- Output: PNG
How smart PNG compression works
Most PNGs use millions of possible colours but only need a few hundred. The image is reduced to an optimal palette of up to 256 colours with dithering, so it looks the same but takes far less space, then oxipng finds the most efficient PNG encoding.
Lossless mode
Lossless mode only re-optimises how the PNG is stored, so every pixel stays identical. Savings are smaller (typically 5–30%).
Limitations
- Images that are already highly compressed may barely shrink.
- Animated images are compressed as a single frame.
Privacy
Files you choose are read into your browser’s memory and processed on your device; they are not uploaded to a server. Temporary download links are released after use, and the offline cache never stores your documents. More about privacy and limits.
Frequently asked questions
Does it keep transparency?
Yes, in both modes. Semi-transparent edges are preserved in the palette.
Can I compress a PNG without losing quality?
Yes – choose Lossless. Every pixel stays identical; only the way the file is stored is optimised.
Is it like TinyPNG?
It uses the same idea – colour quantization followed by optimisation – but runs entirely in your browser, so your images are never uploaded.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser using WebAssembly versions of the same codecs desktop apps use. Your photos never leave your device.
Is it free?
Yes – free with no signup, no watermark and no daily limit. You can process many images at once.
