Optimize & repairLimited
Reduce a PDF to a target file size
Upload forms and email systems often cap attachments at 1 MB, 2 MB or 5 MB. Pick the limit and the tool tries progressively stronger compression until the file fits – and tells you honestly if it cannot.
How to use PDF File Size Reducer
- Select a PDF.
- Choose the maximum size you need (or enter a custom value).
- Run the reducer; it tries lossless first, then stronger levels.
- Download the smallest result that fits.
Supported formats
- Input: PDF
- Output: PDF
How it searches
Attempts: lossless optimization, then rasterized versions at 150, 110, 90 and 72 dpi with decreasing JPEG quality. It stops at the first result under your target and reports which settings produced it.
If the target is unreachable
You get the smallest version found plus a message. Consider splitting the file or removing pages instead.
Privacy
Files you choose are read into your browser’s memory and processed on your device; they are not uploaded to a server. Temporary download links are released after use, and the offline cache never stores your documents. More about privacy and limits.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from Compress PDF?
Compress PDF applies a level you choose. The reducer automatically finds the gentlest level that meets a size you specify.
Will text stay selectable?
Only if lossless already meets the target. Otherwise pages are rasterized.
