PDF to PDF/A conversion is not available

PDF/A is an archival standard that requires embedded fonts, device-independent colour with output intents, specific metadata and no encryption or external dependencies. Producing – and verifying – compliant files needs a validating conversion engine that is not available as a browser-side library here, so this tool is intentionally disabled rather than producing files that merely claim to be PDF/A.

No file is processed on this page. See the explanation and alternatives below.

What to do instead

  1. Use a validating tool such as a desktop PDF/A converter (for example Ghostscript with PDF/A settings, or Adobe Acrobat’s Preflight).
  2. Validate the output with a PDF/A validator such as veraPDF.

Supported formats

  • Input: —
  • Output: —

What you can do here instead

Remove encryption with Unlock PDF (if authorized), check fonts and structure with PDF Properties, and clean metadata with Edit Metadata before converting elsewhere.

Limitations

  • Unavailable – no conversion is performed.

Frequently asked questions

Why not just set a PDF/A flag?

Adding identification metadata without meeting the requirements produces a file that fails validation and falsely claims compliance.

Will it be added?

Only if a standards-validated conversion path can run entirely in the browser.
