Remove metadata from a PDF
PDFs often carry the author’s name, the software used, edit dates and keywords. This tool rebuilds the file without its document information dictionary and XMP stream so those details are not shared by accident.
How to use Remove PDF Metadata
- Select a PDF.
- Run Remove Metadata.
- Optionally open Properties to confirm the fields are empty.
- Download the cleaned PDF.
Supported formats
- Input: PDF
- Output: PDF
What is removed
Title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, dates and the XMP metadata stream at document level.
What remains
Page content itself. Names typed into the visible text, annotation authors and embedded file names are not metadata of this kind and are not touched.
Limitations
- Does not clean annotations, attachments or visible content.
Privacy
Files you choose are read into your browser’s memory and processed on your device; they are not uploaded to a server. Temporary download links are released after use, and the offline cache never stores your documents. More about privacy and limits.
Frequently asked questions
Is this enough to anonymise a document?
Not by itself. Visible text, comments and attachments can still identify people.
Will the tool add its own producer string?
The result is built with empty metadata; a viewer may show a generic producer.
