What size is a WhatsApp DP?

WhatsApp stores profile photos as a square and displays them in a circle. 640 × 640 pixels is comfortably enough for every screen size it is shown at, and is the size this tool produces. There is no official published figure, and anyone quoting one as official is guessing - what matters is that the image is square and large enough not to look soft.

Why your DP keeps getting cut off

A phone photo is tall - 3:4 or 9:16 - and a profile photo is square, so something has to go. Upload the tall photo and WhatsApp takes the middle, which is usually your chest. Crop to a square yourself and you decide what survives. Then remember the circle: anything in the corners of your square will not be visible at all.

Group icons and WhatsApp Business logos

The same square applies to group icons and Business profile logos. For a logo, leave a little margin around the artwork - a design that fills its square to the edges loses its corners to the circular mask.
