What fits in 20 KB

Enough for a clean signature at 300 x 100 px with room to spare, or a small passport-style photo around 200 x 230 px that still shows the face clearly. This is the most common signature limit on Indian exam forms.

Forms that cap uploads at 20 KB

Getting the best result at this size

For a signature, convert to pure black-on-white before compressing. For a photo at this size, crop to head and shoulders first - background detail costs bytes and the form does not want it.

How the target is reached

The image is saved as a JPG at the highest quality that still fits in 20 KB (counted as 20,000 bytes), found by trying successive quality levels. Only if quality alone cannot get there is the image scaled down, in steps, keeping its proportions. The exact final size and dimensions are shown when it finishes.

Limitations

  • The result is a JPG, so transparent areas in a PNG become white.
  • A heavily cropped or very detailed image may need to be scaled down to fit.
  • The tool checks size, dimensions and format - not whether the photo itself meets a form’s rules on pose, lighting or how recent it is.

Privacy

Files you choose are read into your browser’s memory and processed on your device; they are not uploaded to a server. Temporary download links are released after use, and the offline cache never stores your documents. More about privacy and limits.

Frequently asked questions

Will the file be exactly 20 KB?

It will be at or just under 20 KB - the largest, best-quality file that fits.

Will the dimensions change?

Only if they have to. Most images reach the target on quality alone, and the result shows the final width and height so you can check against the form.

Which forms ask for 20 KB?

SSC CHSL 2025 notice, para 9.5; IBPS CRP PO/MT-XVI (2026), Annexure III; SBI Junior Associates CRPD/CR/2026-27/17, Annexure-II; Protean PAN scan guidelines (Form 93). Each figure here was read from that notice, and notices change - confirm against your own before submitting.

Does the form count 1 KB as 1000 or 1024 bytes?

Forms differ, and most do not say. The result is kept under the limit counted as 1000 bytes, so it also passes a form that counts 1024.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read into your browser and resized on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, which matters when the file is an ID photo or a signed form.

Is it free?

Yes - free, with no signup, no watermark and no daily limit.
