PNG keeps text and line art crisp with no compression artefacts, which makes it the better choice for slides, diagrams and screenshots-from-PDF. Pages are rendered locally with PDF.js.

PNG versus JPG

PNG files are larger for photographic pages but sharper for text. If a page is mostly photographs, PDF to JPG gives much smaller files.

Transparent background

Enable the option to keep unpainted page areas transparent instead of white.

Limitations

  • Page size × dpi is capped at about 16 megapixels.
  • Output is raster only.

Privacy

Files you choose are read into your browser’s memory and processed on your device; they are not uploaded to a server. Temporary download links are released after use, and the offline cache never stores your documents. More about privacy and limits.

Frequently asked questions

Why are PNG files so large?

PNG is lossless. A 300 dpi A4 page is about 2,480×3,508 pixels. Lower the resolution to shrink it.

Does it keep selectable text?

No – the output is a picture. Use PDF to Text for text.
